Wow! What can I say! When the tape of Vince Roth and Mick Nards short film 'Nekro' arrived here at SGM I had no idea what to expect and I could never have imagined what I was about to view either...
'Nekro' is a short film (about ten minutes or so) that has little in the way of plot and virtually no dialogue. What it does have is probably the most powerful 10 minutes of horror cinema you're ever likely to see...and some!
The scenario is basically a van drives up and the driver gets out, drags a young womans body into his home, lays her out on some plastic sheeting on the barren floor...and then things get a bit wild (to say the least!)
Ultra violent and sexually graphic, 'Nekro' is a stunning little film that will both shock and scare you with its undiluted high impact onslaught of brutal horror. Undeniably many will be highly offended by the film, but they would be blind to the talent that is on show here.
Roth and Nards have done an excellent job with some very tight and fluid direction and make great use of layered audio tracks to add to the atmosphere - mixing the depraved grunts of the abductor with both the screams of terror and his perceived sexual gratification of his victim. And just when you think you've seen all that's going to happen they slam you with a stunning ending that is up there with Chainsaw Massacre's family dinner scene for capturing onscreen frenzy.
Be warned, 'Nekro' truly isn't for everyone due to it's strong nature but I have to say I absolutely loved it and I'm very much looking forward to future productions by this team. These guys are going places (if they're not locked up first), get in there early and check 'em out!
