Mummy Raider

Mummy Raider

Well it's about time! After initially discovering the delicious delights of the beautiful Misty Mundae at Alternative Cinema's cool website my curiosity was tweaked. Then late last year I had the great fortune of checking out the latest edition of the Headpress book/magazine (essential reading by the way) which contained extensive coverage of the crazy folk at renegade production company Factory 2000 and it's founder William Hellfire and its starlet Misty. By this point I was reaching Misty fever, I needed to get some Mundae movies to watch and thankfully seduction Cinema would answer my lusty prayers with the release of the amusingly titled 'Mummy Raider'. Would my frenzy be about to be peaked?

'Mummy Raider' the disc is a great experience for Misty fans like myself, but 'Mummy Raider' the movie was perhaps not the satisfying pleasure that I had hoped it would be. First off let's look at the main feature itself...'Mummy Raider' is exactly what you would expect it to be, basically it's a soft core spoof of the successful Lara Croft 'Tomb Raider' game, though here with some minor B-movie monster fun chucked in for good measure!

The film opens with buxom blonde Nazi Doctor Humboldt who has captured Professor Kleve and his equally buxom daughter Kristen in the hope of finding out the secrets of resurrection to reanimate the mummified body of evil Egyptian King Thotep! Things don't look good for the good professor (more so when he discovers that his not so innocent daughter has been our heroine Misty's lover for some time) but it is the same said heroine Misty that is ready to pounce and save the day! Low budget action and kinky hi-jinx are the order of the day as Misty blasts her way to the rescue and then indulges in some hot lesbo shenanigans with both the professors daughter and the inevitably captured Nazi bitch.

Now perhaps I was expecting too much for my first Misty movie experience and although there is plenty to enjoy the movie still left me wanting for more. The mummy from the title was onscreen for barely long enough and could have been put to great use (especially if it had been thrown into the sexual antics!); a shame as the mummy make-ups was actually quite impressive! Also, the fact that the film itself runs for a mere 45 minutes or so felt a bit lacking too. Ok sure, the whole concept is surely to act as a commercial cash in on both the 'Tomb Raider' scene (well adult spoofs of mainstream cinema has long been a successful business in the US rental market) and Misty's growing popularity in the underground scene, but I wish more time had been spent putting together an all round tighter movie that would have appeased the more demanding among us. That said, I'm probably asking too much from what at the end of the day is actually a slice of soft-core fun (which it is!)

But anyway, as I mentioned 'Mummy Raider' the disc as a whole is thankfully a very satisfying package, and here's why...first off there's a nice selection of cool extras on the disc that in total run for far longer than the main movie itself and similarly are far more satisfying. First off there's a 30-minute 'Behind the Scenes' home movie documentary that entertained me no end! As well as lots of coverage of the shoot itself it has some great candid footage of Misty and the production team larking it up. Of particular note is the fact that I found the candid filming of the sex scenes to be far more erotically stimulating than the finished piece and there's some great footage off set with Misty (tongue in cheek) decrying her need for sex...(hmmm, we can dream!)

Next up are some amusing out-takes/bloopers which are light-hearted and lots of fun to watch. Then there are two music videos - one of which is the 'Mummy Raider' music video (basically comprising of footage from the film) and a bizarre music video for some dance band that will only be of interest to those that are into that particular scene.

Best of all though is the very welcome addition of the short film by Factory 2000 'My First Female Lover' starring Misty and her colleagues Esmerelda DeLarocca and Jayne Ester. Basically the film involves Esmerelda phoning Misty for some long distance mutual masturbation whilst Misty retells the story of her first lesbo encounter at college with Jayne. 'My First Female Lover' is without a doubt one of the sexiest and erotically charged films I have seen in quite some time (and believe me I've seen a few!) You will be guaranteed to get consumed by the sexual tension onscreen very soon after the film has begun and if you haven't discovered the delights of Misty yet then there won't be a better way to start than here! Watching as both Misty and Esmerelda slowly build up to the point of gratification is a truly awesome experience, both women look fantastic and will have most in a sweat before the end titles roll! Watching this short movie did also make we want for another thing though...and that is to see the rest of Factory 2000's back catalogue get complied for a very welcome DVD release (go on, how about it Alternative Cinema?) More so when you consider the more questionable perverse nature of some of their earlier video only releases! Underground talent unbound that needs to come into the warmth of the DVD scene!

So, whilst 'Mummy Raider' the movie isn't the best slice of exploitation cinema you'll see it's still a fun piece of saucy shenanigans but 'Mummy Raider' the DVD is a great way for newcomers (and old fans) of Misty Mundae to get a taste for her wonders and 'My First Female Lover' is worth the entrance fee alone! Get the hankies out and check this one out!
