Strange goings on at the Hotel Quickie when the police are called in when there's a rise in the bizarre crime of hookers biting off their clients dicks !! Detective Macaroni heads the investigation and very quickly discovers that all is not what it seems - and in fact the real perpetrator here is the Killer Condom !!!
Martin Walz' Killer Condom has came from nowhere and is one of the most fun releases in quite some time. Troma shine again with this excellent acquisition and what a movie it is.
Firstly, the uninitiated among you please don't blindly categorise this film purely on the title and its ditributor alone. This is top quality genre cinema all the way. Walz direction is top notch and the film has a feel more akin to the works of Junot et Caro (Delicatessen, Lost Children) than the title suggests. A stylish pastiche of euro perceptions of the gritty New York seedy underbelly, handled with great humour and wit.
The casting and quality of the performances on show is Grade A stuff also, with not only the lead characters of Inspector Macaroni and ex-cop transvestite Bob (sorry, Babette) shining throughout but a miriad of brilliantly casted sub-characters that will enthral you through the length of the film.
There will be one small problem though for some small minded horror fans though, and that is the fact that the movie is set around the vibrant gay scene. While I hate to even bring this into the equation I have noticed an element of homophobia amongst the more pea brained so-called genre fans and this is not only regretable and tragic but these folk will probably hate this movie. But hey, that's their loss (and what a loss it is). And hey, before you pea-brainers start screaming fag at the SGM staff - I'm straight folks, but I have no problem whatsoever with two people in love no matter what sex they are (rant over !!) But that nonsense aside, Killer Condom is simply a fantastic film - clever, witty (in fact hilarious at points), beautifully casted and directed with some natty cool special effects to boot (provided by everyone's fave necrophiliac film-maker Jorg Buttgereit).
Now the disc itself - the print on show is fine, showing in it's aspect ratio of semi-widescreen (eh??) with just a couple of moments where the print shifts on-screen, but that will in no way ruin the fun you'll have watching this cracker. There's also a fun commentary involving director Walz, Buttgereit and a load of beer !! And add to that the expected wad of Tromatic extras (trailers, shorts, quizzes etc) you've got another Troma goodie to add to your collection (and major congratulations must go to Troma for picking this one up for release - well done !!)
So, a great film and a most worthwhile release (and I'll never wear a condom again !!) Check it out now !! Now can I have some red jelly !!
